Address Crime in our Region

Jul 02, 2024

The first thing that needs to happen in our region is to staff the police to correct levels. Kingaroy is at almost 50% of where it was and needs to be. Police have become full-time domestic violence officers, often spending entire days in writing reports and dealing with offenders. There is so much wrong with this scenario and it is not just about funding police, but that is a start. It is about have the ability to stand the alleged assaulter before the magistrate the next day and have the issue dealt with instead of releasing the alleged assaulter back into the same environment where the attack occurred. It is dealing with the pressures of living, which are on all us because of Labor and LNP policies.

The cost-of-living places massive pressure on families and their way of life. This is much broader than a state issue and must be dealt with at the federal level also. Domestic violence is also a significant cause of homelessness, particularly among women and children. The lack of sufficient safe and affordable accommodation options for those fleeing violence contributes to increased homelessness.
